MARTINSVILLE -- Dale Leo Miller, age 87, of Martinsville, IL passed away unexpectedly at his home early Friday morning, December 16, 2016. Dale was born July 31, 1929 in Martinsville, IL the son of Ben and Frances (Carpenter) Miller.

Dale is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Baird) Miller. They were married May 29, 1952, celebrating 64 years together. He is also survived by three sons: Bradley Miller (Kathy) of Fort Wayne, IN, Richard Miller (Jean Ann) of Grapevine, TX, and Brian Miller (Danelle) of Mattoon, IL, six grandchildren: Jessica Finney (Dale) of Casey, IL, Shaun Miller (Elizabeth) of Grapevine, TX, Tom Miller (Beth) of Washington, DC, and Alyssa, Cayden, and Ethan Miller of Mattoon, IL, and one great-grandchild: Melody Miller of Grapevine, TX. Also surviving is one sister, Martha Smith of Edinburgh, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Dale was a veteran of the Korean War, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class, and was a life-member of the Martinsville American Legion Post #515. He was on the Martinsville Fair Board for many years. Dale also served on the Martinsville School Board for 8 years, serving as President. Dale was a farmer for many years and a carpenter, building and repairing many homes. He liked woodworking and repairing clocks, and was known to help others in many ways. He faithfully attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Casey, IL.

Services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10 am at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with Pastor Allen Ebbler officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 19th from 4 – 7 pm at the Greenwell Funeral Home, 30 N. Washington St., Martinsville, IL. Burial will be in the Baird Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL with graveside military rites.

Memorial donations may be made to Martinsville Library, 120 E. Cumberland St., Martinsville, IL 62442.
