William Guy Aull, 88, of Philpot left this earth to obtain his heavenly reward Friday, Dec. 9, 2016. He was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Knottsville to the late Michael X. (Harry) and Mary Pauline Aull. Bill was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Have you ever read an obituary and thought “I wish I had known this person? He sounded like a very interesting man!" Well, that was Bill, once you met him, you never forgot him. A smile came to your face and your heart had a nice warm feeling at the mention of his name. His sons and his grandchildren wondered if he knew everyone, as when you said who your father or grandfather was – people would respond – "Hey, I know Bill." He was the “favorite” Uncle Bill – of all his nieces and nephews, which are too numerous to count, as he was one of 15 children! He had a wonderful smile, that twinkle in his eye, and, of course, that fantastic warm loving hug and a kiss for the girls! Always full of fun and laughter, always there if you needed help – whether it was physical help or just an ear to listen. Bill met and married the love of his life, Wanda L. Gilbreath, and celebrated their 50th anniversary before Wanda died Dec. 18, 2003. He worked numerous jobs, but retired from Green River Steel where he served as a superintendent and spent seven years as an adviser to U.S. Steel, located in Venezuela, South America. Bill and his family lived on Legion Park Drive for several years and in 1980 they moved back to his home area of Knottsville until his passing. Waiting for him were his wife Wanda; his son, Patrick; his parents; brothers Joseph Harry "Jack," James L. "Jim," Joseph "Joe" A. and Charles T Aull; sisters Elizabeth (Jakie) Baron, Sister Margaret Joseph Aull, Beverly Clark, Thomasine "Tommie" Higdon and Hazel Ruth Aull; and his great-granddaughter, Emma Michelle Howard.
Bill leaves to mourn his passing, sons Chris (Peggy) Aull, Michael Aull and Steven Aull, all of Owensboro; grandchildren Nick (Jamie) Aull, Carrie (Scotty) Howard, Matthew Aull and Ashley Aull, all from Owensboro, Jarrod (Deborah) Aull of California, Jessica Aull of Florida and Daniel Aull of South Carolina; a former daughter-in-law, Lisa Alloway of South Carolina; great-grandchildren Madison and Shelby Aull of Owensboro and Juniper and Willow Aull of California; a brother, Robert (Nanna Mae) Aull; sisters Carolyn (Joe) Lyddane, Joy Dunn, Sister Naomi Aull O.S.U., Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, Sister Marie Michael Aull C.P. – Passionist Monastery and his special friend, JoAnn Head. The funeral service will be noon Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at St. William Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday with prayers at 6:30 P.M. and after 10 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
