Mary Thomasine “Tommie” Higdon, 97, of Owensboro passed away on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at home. She was born in Daviess County, on Aug. 16, 1917, to the late Harry and Mary Mattingly Aull. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
She enjoyed dancing, cooking, talking with her friends at Fern Terra, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She was also preceded in death by a great grand-child Brandon Higdon; eight brothers and sisters, Joe, Jim, Jack and Thomas Charles Aull, Beverly Clark, Sr. Margaret Joseph Aull, Elizabeth “Jakie” Miller and Hazel Ruth Aull.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Michael (Judy) Higdon, and Donald Ray (Tracy) Higdon both of Owensboro; three daughters, Janice (Bennie) Payne of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Pam Shelton (Kyle Henderson) and Margaret (Jeff) Stuart both of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren, Michael Higdon (Janice Payne) of Knottsville, Connie (Eric) Griffith of Owensboro, Holly (Randy) Way of Mason, Michigan, David Payne and Robin Lorencen both of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Kristie Franco of Lansing Michigan, Nicole (Darren) Evans of Whitesville, Corey Shelton of Philpot, Heather and Wendy Stuart both of Louisville, Jarrod Stuart and Megan Higdon both of Owensboro; 20 great-grandchildren, Tonya Fierro of Clarksville, Tenn., Mandy (Jon) Bretz of Santa Claus, Ind., Morgan Higdon of Rockport, Ind., Chelsea Bruner of Owensboro, Cassie Stauffer of Ann Arbor, Mich., Colt and Courtney Stauffer, Taylor, Payton, Hailey, Kristie, and Kaylee Payne, Tyler, Bailey, and Carly Lorencen all of Grand Ledge, Michigan, Hannah, Ben, and Jack Franco all of Lansing, Michigan, Dylan Evans of Whitesville, and Kalena Genesis of Louisville; two great-great-grandchildren, Lilyana Marie Rager of Owensboro and Amelia Fierro of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Bill and Bob Aull both of Philpot; four sisters, Sr. Naomi Aull of Mount St. Joseph, Sr. Marie Michael Aull of St Joseph Monastery, Joy Dunn and Anna Carolyn ”Cricket” Lyddane both of Owensboro; two sisters-in-law, Lena and Nannie Mae Aull both of Philpot; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Rev. Julian Ibemere officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
