Services for Leland N. Douthit, 91, of Elkhart will be at Baily & Foster Chapel; burial will follow in Garden of Memories.
He was born to Mabel Priscilla Barthel and Clarence Ephner Douthit.
He was raised on a farm and worked in his family's dairy business. Later in life he worked for the tile factory in Palestine and retired from the City of Palestine where he worked at the water treatment plant for 23 years.
He loved the simple life of living on the farm raising a garden and tending cattle. He served in the US Army in WWII as a mechanic in a motor pool in Korea, he said he was always fortunate to have the opportunity to do so. He enjoyed his conversations with his friends and loved good gospel singing.
Mr. Douthit was preceded in death by his parents; son Eddie Lee; brothers Boyd, Homer, Milton and Melvin Douthit.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Johnye; children Charkes Douthit (Kathy), Pat Douthit Green, Betty Wortham (Tim), Marsha Snow Sanchez and stepdaughter, Lillie Broughton; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
