Veta G. Claiborn, 89, Jefferson City, died Aug. 22, 2001, at her home. She was born Sept. 23, 1911, in Iberia, a daughter of James A. and Lou Bond Eads. She was married Aug. 11, 1936, in Marshfield, to Charles Robert Claiborn, who died Sept. 7, 1991.
She received a bachelor's degree in Education from Drury College, Springfield, in 1933, and a master's in education in 1959 from Lincoln University. She taught high school in Missouri for 43 years, the last 20 in Jefferson City public schools.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Winsome Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and Jefferson City Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Missouri State Gideons Auxiliary and served as Missouri state chaplain for three years.
Survivors include two brothers, H.F. Eads, Cleburne, Texas, and James W. Eads, Iberia.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Doyle Sager and the Rev. Thomas W. Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Iberia City Cemetery, Iberia. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, or the Iberia Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
