Obituary: Jefferson City News-Tribune, Sunday, September 8, 1991

Charles R. Claiborn, 80, Jefferson City, died Saturday at Memorial Community Hospital after a long illness. He was born March 1, 1911, at Crocker, a son of Inauda and Sally Miller Claiborn. On Aug. 11, 1941, he was married at Marchfield to Veta G. Eads, who survives of the home.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, he graduated from high school in Crocker, and received his B.S. in education from Southwest Missouri State College, Springfield, and his M.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed in education for many years, including service as superintendent of schools at Russellville for six years and as principal at Moreau Heights Elementary School fro 10 years and East Elementary School for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1976. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a member of Gideons International, member and past president of the Cole County Retired Teachers Assn., member of the Missouri State Teachers Assn., and past member of the Kiwanis Club.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Freeman Chapel, with Dr. Gary Parker and Dr. Thomas W. Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor's choice.

Though his obituary says he was buried in Jefferson City, his stone, complete with death date inscribed, is in the Iberia Cemetery with his wife.
