Stella "Lorene" West went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the age of 86. She was born to Algie and Gladys Bettis in Arkansas in 1930. She was married to LW West for 42 years before he passed away in 1988. They moved from Arkansas in 1952 and settled in Humboldt County where they raised four children.
She was a homemaker who loved gardening and canning. She also crocheted for many years and made blankets for everyone in the family. Her home was where the family gathered for holidays and birthdays. Many memories were made that will last in our hearts forever of enjoying meals together with amazing food and visiting aunts and uncles and many cousins. It was always fun to visit their home by the river in Rio Dell. Lorene spent much of her time talking with loved ones, sharing stories of her childhood and giving advice to those who needed it.
She was preceded in death by her husand LW, and children Lary West, Carolyn Duclo, Charlotte Walker, and Sandy Welch. She is survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her daughter Carolyn passed away earlier this year on March 4, 2016 and will be laid to rest with her mother. She was known for her kind heart, cheerful demeanor, faithfulness to God, and love of animals.
Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday, November 19 at 11:00 AM at Gobles Chapel, Fortuna with Pastor Helen Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Fortuna.
