She was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Watauga County.
She was the daughter of General Dixon Watson and Annie Greene Watson.
She attended the N.C. State School for the Blind through ninth grade. She earned her GED in 1969, then attended Evans Business College. She then entered Duke University Medical Transcription School, graduating in 1971.
She was a member of Charity Independent Baptist Church.
Ethel retired from Gaston Memorial Hospital as a medical transcriptionist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Thomas; brothers, Arnold, Otis and Russeau Watson; sister, Ruby Watson.
