Mabel Ruth Harnish, 98, of Lancaster, formerly of Arnold, died Friday (April 11, 2003) in Conestoga View Nursing Home, Lancaster.

Born July 26, 1904, in Saltsburg, she lived in Arnold before moving to Lancaster in 1989.

Mrs. Harnish was a member of Greater Beneficial Union, New Kensington, and was designated a Gold Star and Blue Star Mother by American Gold Star Mothers.

She enjoyed gardening, reading and solving crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two sons, Robert H. (Dorothy) Jackson of Upper Burrell and John J. (Doris) Harnish Jr. of Arnold; six daughters, Dorothy G. Pelino of New Kensington, Elizabeth Williams of Tulsa, Okla., Margaret Adams of Arnold, Frances Mae Bitner of Lancaster, Joyce Hollier of Camp Hill and Mrs. JoAnn (William) Wagner of Tarentum; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Harnish Sr.; three sons, Eugene E. Jackson, Ronald Harnish and infant William Jackson; a stepson, Richard Harnish; her parents, Aaron G. and Mitilda E. Uncapher VanDorn; a brother, Harry VanDorn; and a sister, Margaret LaScola.

Friends will be received from 8 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at RUSIEWICZ OF ARNOLD FUNERAL HOME, 1400 Fifth Avenue. The Rev. Richard Grant will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
