Obituary for William "Bill" E. Bastin:

William E. “Bill” Bastin, 86, of Ellettsville, died Dec. 25, 2014, at his home in Ellettsville.

Born Nov. 11, 1928, in Monroe County, Indiana, he was the son of Emsley “Happy” Bastin and Lona (Burton) Bastin. Bill was a Navy veteran. He worked in the stone industry as a draftsman and an estimator. He served on the Ellettsville Town Board as the president for two terms, was a member of Ellettsville Volunteer Fire Department, part of that time as fire chief, a member the Monroe County Auxiliary Deputy Sheriffs, a member of the Bloomington American Legion and part the Monroe County Honor Guard Team, a member of the Ellettsville I.O.O.F. and a member of Lifeway Baptist Church. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Robert, Floyd and Richard Bastin.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn J. (Kell) Bastin of Ellettsville; children, Sharon Hottell (Larry) of Bloomington, Dennis Bastin (Jhonna) of Ellettsville and Mark Bastin (Maureen) of Gresham, Oregon; brothers, Jim Bastin (Kate) of Florida, Jack Bastin (Carolyn) of Bloomington and Phill Bastin (Trude) of Bloomington; one sister, Charlotte Robertson of Florida; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville. Pastor Steve Von Bokern will officiate. Burial will take place at Methodist Cemetery in Ellettsville with military rites by the Monroe County Honor Guard. Calling will be Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home
