Harriet is the daughter of Richard Demont Sprague and Louisa Maria Rose. She married Nelson Herrick on April 1,1852. Nelson and Harriet had four children, Clinton who died as a child, William James, Eliza Alice who also died as a child and Harriet Alphretta. In the Spring of 1861, Nelson was killed when his team ran away while he was hauling logs down Ogden Canyon. His brother, Lester James, married Nelson's young widow and helped her rear his children. This marriage however, only lasted four years and in 1865 Harriet married Joseph Petty,records show they had a daughter named Josephine Petty born 5, Sept. 1866 in Salmon River ID.
Harriet's burial is unknown, some records indicate she died in 1865/1866 another 1867/1868 in a mining camp on the Salmon River in Idaho.
