CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at a 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Rita Prejean Breaux, age 91, who passed away Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Garden View Assisted Living in Lafayette.

Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Bill Melancon, pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, will officiate at the services.

Mrs. Breaux was a native and lifelong resident of Carencro. A devout catholic, Mrs. Breaux was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Bonne Mort Society, St. Anne Society, Ladies Altar Society, as well as a Charter Member of Catholic Daughters Court of Our Lady of Guadeloupe # 2317.

During the early 1940’s, at the age of eighteen, she trained with the National Youth Administration in Rayne, LA and Corpus Christi, TX. She then went to work in Dalhart, TX as a machinist becoming the quintessential "Rosie the Riveter" manufacturing parts for B27 and B29's for the Second Air Force. She was always proud that she fulfilled her contract with the NYA by working "for the duration plus six months.”

She adored her family, especially her grandchildren and their expanding families. She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, quilting and reading. Enjoyment of exercise, crafts and bingo expanded with her move to Garden View.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Fortier and her husband, Gene, of Lafayette and Linda Landry and her husband, Tony, of Gonzales; four grandchildren, Gene Fortier, III and his wife, Kasey, Blaise Fortier and his wife, Heather, Ivy L. Graham and her husband, Aarron, and Callie Sawvel and her husband, Chris; and eight grandchildren, Avery, Emily, Nicholas, Mason, Brayden, Ethan, Jasper and Jameson.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband in 1971, Ivy Breaux, Jr.; her parents, Camille Prejean and the former Alice Cormier both natives of Vatican; twin daughters, Glenda and Brenda Breaux; three brothers, Ulysee Jimmy Roger, Edras Prejean and Aldus "Dud" Prejean; and two sisters, Betty Cormier and Elida "Toot" Savoie.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Gene Fortier, III, Blaise Fortier, Aarron Graham, Chris Sawvel, Paul Prejean, Michael Duffy.

The family is thankful for the care given by all her physicians over the years, especially Dr. Jay Culotta, Dr. Wade May, Dr. Fabian Lugo, Dr. Gene Brierre and Dr. Kelly Cahill.

Everyone in the family deeply appreciates, as did she, the cheerful comfort, care, fun and entertainment offered by the staffs of All Care and Garden View Assisted Living during the five years she called Garden View home.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
