..Eugene Dewey McKern, 73, a native of Jerome, died suddenly at his home Thursday, Sept. 23, 1971, at 5:30 p.m. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Born June 28, 1898, in Jerome, he was the son of Lewis Henry and Ella May Ewers McKern. On Feb. 6, 1918, he was united in marriage to Coza M. Dooley in Centerville and she survives his passing.
..He attended the Methodist church.
..McKern was an employee of the Pure Ice Co. in Centerville for a period of 25 years and served as a coal mine engineer and farmer.
..He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Bruce McKern, a casualty during World War II; two granddaughters and two sisters, Lela McKern and Dorothy Burns.
..Survivors, in addition to his widow, are one daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Marcella) Inskeep of Seymour; a son, Carl McKern of Davenport; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Ella Hunter of Centerville; a brother, William McKern of Kansas City, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. James Cathcart of Centerville.
..Funeral was Sunday, Sept. 26, at 2:30 p.m. from the Miller-Wehrle Funeral home. Rev. Glen Lochhead officiated, assisted by Rev. Dale Wilfong. Burial was in the Jerome cemetery.
..A memorial has been established for the heart fund in Mr. McKern’s memory.
