Benito was born on March 21, 1922 in Dilley, Texas. He proudly volunteered to serve his country in December 1941 by joining the United States Army during World War II and sailed overseas from San Francisco, CA on April 22, 1942 aboard the SS Lurline. He served as Private First Class with Company G, 126th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 32nd "Red Arrow" Infantry Division. He arrived in Adelaide, South Australia on May 14, 1942, served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and crossed the Owen Stanley Mountains on foot to reach Buna Mission in Papua New Guinea. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1944.
Benito loved serving God and his country, working with his hands and helping people, traveling the states by road with his family, and was always ready for a good cup of coffee and conversation.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ofelia Esqueda Torres; daughter Norma Torres; parents Manuel and Tomasa Torres; brothers Manuel Lopez, Felix and Alex Torres; and sister Elisa Arellano. He is survived by his 3 loving daughters, 2 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Benito was a beloved husband, dad, and grandpa and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral Service was held Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South at 9am, followed by interment.
