Carl was born and grew up on the family farm in Glover. Carl took over the farm from his father Cromwell around 1903, moving into the "big house". The original barn was hit by lightning and burned around 1907 or 1908.Carl then built a three-story barn that was stood until the late 1960's.Carl and Isabelle [Sarah Isabelle] sold the farm to son Lisle and wife Ethel (Young) Bean in the mid 1940's, retiring to the "brick house" on the main street in Glover village. Carl was active in local affairs (especially the Glover Driving Club) and was elected to the Vermont Legislature several times. It is unknown when the farm became known as the "East View Stock Farm" but Carl put that name on the large barn he built. (Information from Robert S. Bean, current owner of the Bean farm.)
