Joy Ann Van Dyke, daughter of Peter and Wilmina (Aalbers) Van Oort, was born at Sanborn, IA on November 19, 1939. She spent her youth in the Sanborn area, and attended the Sanborn Christian School.

On September 12, 1957, Joy was united in marriage to James Van Dyke at the Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn. Following their marriage, the couple began farming together near Sanborn where they raised their four children: Randy, Rick, Robert, and Ryan. Joy's days were kept busy helping out on the farm and tending to her growing family. Once the boys were older, she found employment at the Sanborn Dry Cleaners, and later at DeBoer Pharmacy, also in Sanborn. Even with the extra hours spent at work, Joy made sure there was food on the table, and home was a good place to gather at the end of the day.

Joy was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church where she was a member of the Ladies' Bible Study and Coffee Break. Not only was she an excellent seamstress, but also very talented when it came to handwork! She sewed several dresses for her granddaughters when they were younger, and also donated many hours embroidering dishtowels for the Prairie View Auxiliary in Sanborn. When she wasn't busy on a project, Joy liked to catch up with her friends over a hot cup of coffee, or watch her grandchildren participate in their sporting activities. Cooking Sunday dinner for everybody never seemed like work because it meant spending time together with all her family...something she dearly treasured. Joy passed from this life on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at the age of 76.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Peter and Wilmina Van Oort; one brother-in-law, Alvin Kelderman; her father and mother-in-law, Jake and Bessie Van Dyke.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Jim; her four sons and their families; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers: Harvey (Gloria) Van Oort, and Ken (Nat) Van Oort, sisters: Audrey Kelderman, and Donna (Charles) Infinger; many other relatives and friends.
