Peter Van Oort, the son of Johannes and Anna (Baartman) Van Oort, was born at Leota, Minn, on May 5, 1916. He lived his youth and received his educa­tion at Middleburg, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Wilmina Aalberson Nov. 11, 1938 at Middleburg, Iowa. They lived most of their married lifetime at Sanborn where he owned and operated a feed grinding and corn shelling business, retiring In 1991. Mina died on October 25, 1998. Pete died at Northwest Iowa Health Center at Sheldon, Iowa on January 23, 2001 at the age of 84 years, eight months and 18 days.

He is survived by his children: Joy and Jim Van Dyke of Sanborn, Audrey and Alvin Kelderman of Doon, Harv and Gloria Van Oort of Sanborn, Ken and Natalee Van Oortof Rock Valley, and Donna and Charles Infinger of Charleston, S.C.; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Winnie Grevengoed, one step­sister, Tille Wielinga; other relative sand a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two grandsons: Lyle Kelderman and Travis Van Oort; one great-granddaughter Paige Van Oort; one brother, Henry, and two sisters: Eva and Elizabeth.

Pete was a member of the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church where he had served as a deacon and an elder. He also had served on the Hope Haven Board. He enjoyed spending his time welding and working in his machine shop.

Funeral services were held January 25 at the Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn with Rev. Dale Fopma officiat­ing. Casket bearers were Jeff Kelderman, Rob Van Dyke, Nathan Van Oort, Daryl Van Oort, Ryan Van Dyke and Leon Kelderman. Honorary bearers were Randy Van Dyke, Gaylen Kelderman ,Keith Van Oort, Greg Mullins, Rick Van Dyke, David Van Oort, Steven Van Oort, Chad Van Oort, Jason Mullins, Chris­tian Infinger and Corey Inflinger.

Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
