Mr. Stone lived for 21 years on the corner now occupied by the Toler Auditorium at St. Francis Avenue and First Street. Half of the block and a tract now occupied by the Rock Island station were formerly owned by the pioneer.
The Stone family came to Wichita in 1873 from Dewitt County, Illinois, driving overland through Kansas and enduring many hardships. Mr. and Mrs. Stone celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary September 16, 1913. Mrs. Stone is 85 years old. Mrs. B.W. Aldrich, 3700 East Douglas Avenue, widow of a former mayor, and Miss Laura B. Stone, 3701 East Central Avenue, are the surviving children. John Stone, a brother, resides in Independence, MO. Mrs. Sarah Glasscock, a sister, is a resident of Springfield, IL. The funeral will be held Friday from the residence. The body will be taken to Illinois for burial.
