McCarty, Daniel "Dan" Nov 2, 1933 - Sep 11, 2016 Omaha. Preceeded in death by parents, V.M. and Frances McCarty; brothers, Clifford, Paul, Don (twin); sisters, Charolette Meyer, Ruth Adams. Survived by wife of 58 years, Marla; sons, Mark (Melonee), Douglas (Andrea); grandson, Wyatt; brother, Larry (MaryKay); sisters, Rosemary Salbur, Pat Starman, Janice Benz, Yvonne Kopp, Marilyn Newman; and many very special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dan was born Nov 3, 1933 in Hospers, Iowa. He was raised on a farm and graduated from high school in Hartley, Iowa, where he excelled in many sports. After high school he served in the US Army, stationed in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Marla Marie Habbena on 02 Feb, 1958 in Sanborn Iowa. Dan and Marla moved to Omaha to their home in rural West Omaha where they still reside.

Dan stayed active with his favorite hobby, gardening after his retirement from the City of Omaha in 1995. He also was involved in Pinochle Card Club, square dancing and their Tekamah Lake cabin for 40 years.

Dan and his sons, Mark and Doug were active in the Boy Scouts. Dan stayed active even after his sons moved away. He was awarded one of the Boy Scouts highest honors, the Silver Beaver Award.

Funeral Mass was Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Omaha.
