Z. A. BROOKS TAKEN BY DEATH
Z. A. (Doc) Brooks, 76, prominent retired businessman, died Friday at 8:30 a.m. in City hospital following a months illness.
Mr. Brooks became ill while vacationing in Sarasota, Fla., and was hospitalized in Tampa before being returned to Columbus.
He was born in Muscogee county Nov. 28, 1870, the son of the late Joseph Henry and Keziah Willis Brooks, pioneer residents. Mr. Brooks lived here all his life and was a member of Muscogee Lodge No. 6; the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the U. T. C. No. 287.
FUNERAL SET SUNDAY
He resided at 1962 Buena Vista road.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mac Russell Brooks; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice Brooks Pound, Sarasota; a son, Harry R. Brooks, Columbus; three granddaughters, Mrs. Walter l. Post, Jr., New York City; Mrs. Peter T. Flaun, Oberlin, Ohio, and Miss Amy Lois Pound, Sarasota; two great-grandchildren,
Brooks Tiplin Post and Walter L. Post III, both of New York City; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Lawrence and Mrs. Annie Massey, both of Milledgeville, and Mrs. A. D. Holton, Macon; his stepmom, Mrs. J. H. Brooks, Milledgeville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Striffler chapel. The Rev. O. Afton Linger, pastor of Wynnton Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverdale cemetery. per: Lois Goodin Hottinger
