Abner Nicholson was born to Levi and Rhoda Jane Carpenter Nicholson on 28 August, 1859, in Daviess County, Indiana. He worked in his brother Isaacs' blacksmith shop prior to his marriage to Emma Jane Russell on 15 September, 1880. in Daviess County, Indiana. To this union five known children were born, three dying in infancy, and two sons living, one almost to adulthood: Carl Edmond, born in November 1889, and Alonzo C, born in 1890. Alonzo lived to be 18 years of age, dying in 1909. Abner passed away at the early age of 33, and is buried in the Scotland Cemetery near Scotland, Indiana.
