Rhoda Jane Carpenter was born on the first of March, 1829, in Morgan County, Tennessee, to John and Sarah Rhoda Guthery Carpenter, the first of four known children for that couple. Her father died in Greene County, Indiana in August of 1838. His burial location is unknown at this time. Her mother passed away on 19 November, 1878, in Daviess County, Indiana, and is buried in the Bogard Cemetery in Greene County, Indiana under her last husbands name Bogard.
Rhoda Jane married Levi Nicholson on 8 June, 1848, in Greene County, Indiana, and to this union 14 known children were born: Sarah Ann in 1849, Isaac in 1850, Lucinda in 1852, Timothy in 1854, Martha Artema and Mary Artena on 27 April 1857, Abner in 1859, George in 1861, Leah in 1863, Amanda and Miranda on 18 July 1866, Cornelius in 1868, Levi in 1871, and Norah E in 1876.
Rhoda passed away on 8 September, 1916, in Madison, Davis County, Indiana at the age of 87.
