Monica Ann Judson
June 13, 1928 - September 3, 2016

Monica Ann Judson, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on September 3, 2016 at Arbor Hospice after a short illness. She was born on June 13, 1928 in Johannesburg, Michigan to Alexander and Veronica Piasecki Dreffs.

She moved to Ann Arbor as a high school student and met her future husband John Edwin Judson. Ed and Monnie were married at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Gaylord by Monsignor Francis Kaminski on August 30, 1947. The couple were founding members of St. Francis Catholic Church in Ann Arbor. Monnie was a member of the Altar Society and helped count the Sunday collection. She worked at Barnes, Gibson Raymond (BGR), Michigan Bell and Weber’s Inn. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle and euchre. Monnie was an expert cook and baker. Lemon meringue pies, Baked Alaska and fruitcake were a few of her specialties. Monnie enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. Every summer, she and Ed canned quarts of tomatoes for the winter. Her hobbies included reading, solving crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. Monnie and Ed enjoyed traveling and visited Maine, Florida and Bronson, Missouri. Every summer until her illness, Monnie and Ed traveled to northern Michigan over Labor Day weekend, and camped at Burt Lake State Park.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, John Edwin, children Carol (Ron) Stimpson, Kelly (Karen) Judson and Caron (Dean) Wainwright and several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and siblings Rosie (Fran) Switalski, Floyd Dreffs, Virgil (Kathy) Dreffs and Marcy (Carl) Goosen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Agatha and brothers, Lawrence, Vincent, Valentine and Cyril Dreffs.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 4-8pm at The Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, MI, with a rosary service at 7:30 pm. A funeral mass will be on Friday, September 9, 2016, at 11am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, 2250 E. Stadium Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI, with visitation from 10 am until the time of service. A burial will follow at Old St. Pat’s Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Monnie’s memory may be made to the St. Francis Education Fund.
