Funeral services for Chester McMillen, 93, Baldwin City , will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Topeka Cemetery .

Mr. McMillen died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at his home.
He was born July 13, 1917, in rural Douglas County , the son of Jack E. and Bertha Lawson McMillen. He attended school in Stony Point . He later served in the United States Army Air Corps, and attained the rank of Sergeant.

Mr. McMillen and his wife owned the A & B Root Beer Stand in North Lawrence until the 1951 flood, when they moved to Baldwin , and purchased the restaurant and gas station from O.D. Webb. He later worked at Audra's Dawg House and Cordoba 's. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Kansas City Royals, and loved to cook, travel, and being around people.
He married Audra Mae Rainey on May 21, 1951, in Rogers , Ark. She died July 23, 1993. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Dale McMillen.

Survivors include a daughter, Dotty Newland, Baldwin City; a sister, Letha Myers, Baldwin City; four grandchildren, Lary Trowbridge, Eudora, Merle Newland, Richmond, Jana Kelley, and Nancy Cassity, both of Baldwin City; eight great grandchildren, Jill Watson, Tyler and Morgan Trowbridge, Maria Swonger, Melody Newland, Megan Woods, Clayton Culley, and Jenny Thomas; and a great-great grandson, Carter Watson.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Baldwin High School Baseball Program, in care of the funeral home, 601 Ind. , Lawrence , KS , 66044 .
