MRS. LYFORD ELGER OF SCOTSTOWN

SCOTSTOWN -- On Sunday, May 25th, 1958, Katie MacLeod Elger passed away in her 67th year at the Sherbrooke Hospital. Although she had been in failing health for the past few years, she had been confined to bed only about one week.

Mrs. Elger was born in Winslow, on February 24. 1892, daughter of Malcolm MacLeod and his wife. Isabel MacDonald.

She is survived by her husband, Lyford Elger; three sons, Clyne, of Lake Megantic, Ivan, of Berlin, N.H., and Irving, of Scotstown; three daughters in law and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Elger also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary MacDonald, Lisbon, N.H., Mrs. Lydia MacRitchie, Battle Creek, Mich.; two brother, David, Barre, Vt., and Albert, Scotstown; several sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. A sister, Annie, and five brothers, John, Murdo, Angus, Norm an and Hector, predeceased her.

The funeral took place on Tuesday, May 27th. Prayers were held at her late residence at 1:30 p.m. thence to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church at 2 p m, where the service was conducted by Rev. Ivor MacIver. Hymns sung were "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling" and "Abide With Me". The many beautiful floral tributes showed the esteem in which she was held.

The bearers were Payson Sherman, Russell Morrison. Kenneth R. MacLeod, Ross MacDonald, William Ladd and George Wells.

Interment took place in the Lingwick Cemetery.

MacLeod, Newport, Vt.; Mr. Albert MacLeod, Vershire, Vt.; Mr. Norman MacLeod, Barton, Vt.; Mrs. W. White, Mr. and Mrs. H. Pierce, Wells River, Vt; Mrs. Peter McIntosh and Miss Fay Elger, Montreal; Mrs. Flora Elger and Miss Judy Elger, of Sherbrooke.
