Victor John Funtjar, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home, on July 1, 2015. He was born in Warren, Ohio, served in the Army during WWII, and fought with the "78th Lightning" Infantry Division in Central Europe, Rhineland and the Ardennes where he was awarded the Bronze Star and First Oak Leaf cluster to the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and went on to graduate from The Ohio State University. Vic was a member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and was active in the American Legion. After retiring from the Federal Government, Vic and his wife, Mary of 62 years, retired to Palm Harbor, FL where they enjoyed many social activities and being an avid golfer, loved the warm climate. They returned to Columbus several years ago to be close to family. Wife Mary and son Raymond preceded him in death. His three children, Robert, William (Lisa) and Beth A. Wier (Greg) will lovingly miss him. His grandchildren, Elizabeth Lanter (Scott), Joey (Jenny), Andrew Wier (Holly); and three great-grandchildren, William and Anna Lanter and Bear Wier will always remember his loving ways. Vic will be fondly remembered for his honorable and admirable character, sense of humor, love of his family and gentlemanly ways. Vic and Mary were long time members of Brookwood Presbyterian Church where a memorial service will take place Monday, July 13 at 10 a.m.
