STRATFORD - Meredith H. "Mert" Brown, 79, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Jerry Stewart, former pastor and pastor of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Lamesa, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery with flag detail by American Legion Post 224 of Dumas. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Mr. Brown was born June 10, 1927, in Clarendon. He was a farmer and rancher.

He married Corethia McAdams, who passed away in 1978. He grew up west of Claude in the Fairview Community. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. occupational forces in Japan. After living in the Claude, Sunray and Dumas areas, he settled with his family in Stratford in 1968.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Luke Williams, in 1992.

Survivors include his brother, Thurman Brown of Amarillo, two daughters, D'Lynn Reed and husband Ricky of Stratford and Cherie Williams and husband Gregg of Canyon; two sons, James Brown and wife Bonnie of Dalhart and David Brown and wife Janice of Stratford; eight grandchildren, Amy Brown, Davy Brown, Paul Brown, Beau Brown, Adam Reed, Katelyn Reed, Candice Williams and Clayton Williams; and a great-grandson, J.J. Brown.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, Stratford Area Foundation or Stratford Cemetery.
