Alice E. Chambers, 83, 544 Front Ave SW, Castle Rock, died Feb. 22, 1996 at home. She was born Dec. 1, 1912 in Portland, daughter of Earl and Sara Merrill Murphey.
She was a lifelong Castle Rock resident, graduated from Castle Rock High School in 1935, was a secretary for Cowlitz County Engineers Office and was active in community activities. She was a member of the Castle Rock Methodist Church, and a 50 year member of of the Order of Eastern Star Liberty Chapter No. 34. She was past Worthy Matron and District Deputy of the Order of Eastern Star, past Mother Advisor of the Order of the Rainbow Girls, past Sunday School teacher at her church, active in the FISH food program, and enjoyed activities with her family, traveling, and reading.
She married Albert Anderson who died in 1968, then married Dee Chambers who died in 1988.
Surviving are three daughters, Deanna Horsley, Karen Larson and Ellen Odmark of Castle Rock; three sisters, Muriel Van Tassel of Castle Rock, Jean Harris and Helen Bartow of Reedsport, OR; six brothers, Fred Murphey of Joliet, IL, Kenneth, Walter, John, Gordon and Leo Murphey of Reedsport; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; an uncle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Beckmeyer and Lorraine Nazelrod.
Services will be at 2 pm Monday at her church with Pastors Jay Ahn and Murray Hyde officiating. Interment will be at Whittle-Hubbard Cemetery in Castle Rock.
