On June 26, 2016, at approximately 9:00 p.m., while at home and surrounded by her most precious loved ones, we said farewell to the most special and loving lady in our lives, Bettye Jayne Washburne French, affectionately known by her family as “Mamo.”
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA. Officiating will be Father Whit Stodghill and Archdeacon Bette Jo Kauffman. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe, LA.
Bettye married George Edward French shortly after his stint in World War II and remained inseparable for over 66 years. During this time, Bettye and George created and held together a very large, special family that has remained close from day one. It goes without saying that Bettye lived every day for 90 years full of love, grace, courage and strength, characteristics that she instilled in her family and even friends who were lucky enough to have her in their lives. Indeed, there has never been, and will never be, another Mamo.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, her husband George, daughter Taffy, and grandson Brad. She is survived by three children, Bruce French, Michelle Matherne, and Jan Warlick, seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Bettye celebrated her 90th birthday with her dearest loved ones just ten days prior to passing on. While we feel an enormous void from her departure, we should continue to celebrate those perfect 90 years for the remainder of ours. That is definitely what Bettye would want.
