Obituary;
Mr. Thurman E. Coffey, 89, of Harriman, passed away peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 26, 2016.

He was one of 12 children, preceded in death by parents, James Lee and Clatie Pearl (Morgan) Coffey; sisters Lorene (Coffey) Brown, Zelma (Coffey) McKinney, Allene Coffey, Ruby Joyce (Coffey) Stegall; and brothers Jack Coffey, Lowell Coffey, and Charles Coffey.

Mr. Coffey was a Member of the Mossy Grove Baptist Church. Thurman had a passion for listening to, singing and writing gospel music and was published many times in dozens of gospel songbooks, collaborating with musicians and lyricists from East Tennessee and around the southeast.

He served as a Minister of Music at two local churches for more than 60 years and in times past, could frequently be found on a Saturday night at local Singing's with his beloved wife, Lula Mae. Thurman was also a proud veteran of the US Army serving his country in World War II (Pacific service).

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lula Mae (Stone) Coffey, daughter Sherry Coffey Britton (John) of Marietta, Georgia, and son, Gary Coffey of Harriman; three grandchildren, Amelia Britton Wilson (Craig) of Rockwall, Texas, Will Britton of Marietta, Georgia, and Justin Coffey (Albury) of Oakdale; great-grandchildren Jacob and Jayden Coffey and Alistair Wilson; sisters, Violet Sloan (Robert), Ann Sloan (Jim), Helen Hegwood and brother Clarence Coffey (Bonita); several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, many other extended family members, as well as many friends in the Roane County community.

Arrangements are as Follows The Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Saturday, May 28 at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood and Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 29, in the Chapel of Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, at 3 pm with the Rev. Jim Disney officiating. Concluding services and internment will be held immediately following the Funeral on Sunday, May 29 in the Riggs Chapel Cemetery on Snow Lane in Harriman.

Anyone wishing to making donations in lieu of flowers is encouraged to donate to the Gideons International (Gideons.org) or Mossy Grove Baptist Church. Evans Mortuary is serving the Family of Mr. Thurman E. Coffey.
