Rao Derricott Hymas, age 92, peacefully returned to his heavenly home on June 23, 2016. He was born on September 18, 1923 to Benjamin Pitman and Martha Ann Derricott Hymas in Liberty, Idaho. Rao loved music and was always humming along to a song on the radio or a tune in his mind. He also loved to dance and met his sweetheart Velma Morrall at a dance in Montpelier. They were married on October 25, 1941 and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 24, 1944. Rao and Velma raised their family in the same house in which he grew up. He was the youngest of 20 children and took over the family dairy farm after the passing of his father. He ran the farm with his brother Eldon for many wonderful years. Rao was a hard working farmer that witnessed thousands of sun rises while milking cows early in the morning, and countless sunsets baling hay late at night.

Rao is survived by two sons and a daughter; Gary (Jeanette) Hymas of Preston, Roger Hymas of Liberty, and Sherrie Hymas of Preston, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and his long-time love Audrey Michaelson. He was preceded in death by his wife Velma, parents, 19 siblings and 1 grandson.

Special thanks to the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital & Skilled Nursing Facility with much gratitude for their attentive and dedicated care for Rao the last several months of his life.

Funeral services to celebrate Rao’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 12:00 pm at the Liberty LDS Chapel (29 Church Road) with a viewing starting at 10:00 am prior to the services. Interment to follow at the Liberty cemetery.
