Son of Isiah & Elizabeth Boyer Titus.
Isaiah Titus, aged 82, Sharon-Mercer road, former Mercer County Commissioner, life long resident of Hickory Township and widely known throughout this section, died at Deland, Fla. yesterday morning, following a short illness.
Mr. Titus had gone South for the Winter, as had been his annual custom for the past five years. When he left Sharon he was enjoying the best of health and was looking forward to another happy Winter and also his return here to spend the Summer.
He took ill last week and his son-in-law, John Meehan, left for Deland on Monday to be at his bedside.
He was born in Hickory Township on April 10, 1847. For years he owned what is now the Robert Oakes farm, but sold the land and had moved to a new house on the Mercer road, just on the outskirts of Sharon city limits.
Mr. Titus was an ardent Democrat and was always interested in the welfare of his party. In 1900 he was elected county commissioner, serving for one term of three years. His genial disposition won him scores of friends throughout Mercer County. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. John Meehan, Sharon-Mercer road, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Eberhart of Monticello, Iowa. His grandson, John Titus Meehan, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral arrangements will not be made until the body arrives in Sharon.
