Melda Ashby Thorpe, 100 of Marshall, Va. Died Oct. 10, 2004 at Warrenton Overlook Care Center. She was born Nov. 16, 1903 in Marshall a daughter of the late Edward Ashby and Jeannette Thorpe Ashby. Mrs. Thorpe was a member of the Thumb Run Baptist Church, near Orlean since she was 28 years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband- Haskell C. Thorpe in 1948 and by a daughter Vivian Thorpe. She is survived by one daughter- Hazel T. Ball, Marshall, Va.; one son- Irving G. Thorpe, Warrenton; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 2:00 PM at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton by Elder Toliver Utz and Elder Gary Utz. Interment will be at Orlean Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Thumb Run Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Delma Wilson, 5869 Free State Road, Marshall, VA 20115 or to Bethel United Methodist Church, 6903 Blantyre Rd., Warrenton, VA 20187.
