Watters, Howard O. 'Ollie', 85, of School Section Lake, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017, at his home. A Funeral Mass for Ollie will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant and Deacon Larry Fussman assisting.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with a luncheon to conclude at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sue Ann Watters Music Scholarship Fund through the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 1283, Mt. Pleasant MI 48804-1283. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Ollie was born June 25, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late W. Howard and Sophia (Synoski) Watters. He married Sue Ann Cameron September 8, 1958 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of the 1949 graduating class at Mt. Pleasant High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked alongside his father helping to erect oil rigs and also worked in the oil fields for several years before taking a job at Doremire's. In 1983 he began working for Central Asphalt. He was a finish grader operator until his retirement in 2010.
Ollie is survived by 10 children, Kim (Andy) McIntosh and Leslie Watters, both of Mt. Pleasant, Kelly (Lou Mantho) Watters-Winters of Fountain, Jody (Dawn) Watters of Aurora, CO, James (Nannette) Watters of Mt. Pleasant, Jerry (Kris) Watters of Rosebush, Eric Watters of San Diego, CA, and Danny (Kara) Watters, Mark (Kaysi) Watters and Mindy (Mark) Arends, all of Mt. Pleasant; 32 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue Ann Watters in 2016; two daughters, Holly Nelson in 2008 and Sondra Lee Watters-Thering in 2012; grandson, Jared Christopher Watters; and great-grandson, Nolan Andrew Webster. To sign the online guest book, please visit charlesrlux.com
