MARCELLA A. JANSEN
Marcella A. Jansen, 93, a longtime resident of the Banks community, died Friday morning, June 17, 2016 at her home.

MARCELLA ANGELINE JANSEN was born August 17, 1922 in Verboort, Oregon, the daughter of the late Edward Vandervelden and Mary (Kemper) Vandervelden. She was raised and received her education at Visitation School in Verboort.

She was united in marriage to Maurice Joseph Jansen on June 4, 1945 in the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort. Following their marriage they made their first home in Verboort and then moved with her family to Banks, where she had resided since. Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, on March 1, 1995, after celebrating over forty-nine years of marriage together.

Marcella had worked at the Birds Eye Cannery in Hillsboro for several years, then became a full-time homemaker, mother and wife.
She was a longtime member of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Roy. She served on the altar society, helping with parish dinners, wedding and funeral receptions.

Among her special interests, she enjoyed quilting and sewing. She made her house a "home", cooking, baking (especially her bread) and canning.
Marcella enjoyed playing cards and board games with anyone. She was a "sweet" lady with always a friendly smile.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Vandervelden, her three sisters and three brothers.

Also surviving are her sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the St. Francis Parish, 39136 Harrington Road, Banks, Oregon 97106, in her memory.
