Mary, the first daughter of Maurice and Catherine (Powers) Donovan and first child to survive infancy, was born in Fall River. She became a nurse, working for a time as a mill nurse, then working for a time in Boston, before coming back to work in the Union Hospital (the predecessor to Charlton Memorial Hospital). She would pass away in 1979 at the age of 82.
