Funeral services for Mrs. Bertie Inez Riddle Carter will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2006 in Forest Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Robert McLane officiating. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale. Mrs. Carter was born on June 4, 1912 to Mr. and Mrs. William (Bill) Riddle and entered eternal rest on Friday, November 3, 2006 in the Naomi Heights Nursing Home, Alexandria.

"Miss Bertie", as she was known throughout the community, was a retired Post Master and Honorary Lifetime member of the Congress of the United States. She was a 40+ year member of Jewel Chapter # 100, Order of the Eastern Star, where she and her husband belonged and saw both their daughters join. As a life-long member of Forest Hill Baptist Church, she was known for her concern for others and their families. Her zeal for life and her unique wit were legendary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Huel L. Carter; two sisters, Willie McMain and Myrtis Tilley, and one grandson.

Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters, Mary Estelle Poole and her husband, Harold of Forest Hill, and Carolyn Maxey and her husband, George of Many; two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Palmer and her husband, Howard of Denton, Texas, and Harold Poole, Jr. of Long Leaf; one great-grandson, Nelson Palmer; two sisters, Rubye Carter of Alexandria, and Annie Cox of Natchitoches, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Franklin Carter, David Dodge, W.D. Bass, Howard Langston, Michael Carter, and Larry R. Poole.

Friends may call at Forest Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, November 4, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and on Sunday, November 5, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:30 a.m.
