Brenda Cryer Bruton, 66, of Dimmitt, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 in Lubbock.

Celebration of Life services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Dimmitt with Pastor Paul Kenley officiating. A private family burial will take place prior to service. Family visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are being made by Colonial Funeral Home.

Brenda was born on October 14, 1942 in Elida, N.M. and graduated from Elida High School. Brenda met Danny Bruton and was married on May 8, 1965. They had been married for 43 years. She moved to Castro County in the 1960s.

Brenda has been active in several organizational activities and events, including The Diamond Jubilee Celebration, where she helped to secure funding of the pageant. She designed the logo for the Centennial Celebration and served on the Centennial Commission. Brenda was a member of the Young Farmers and Young Home Makers Organization. She helped organize and run the Castro County Stock Show. She was also the President of the Castro County Fair board for many years. Brenda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt and taught Sunday School for 35 years, which was her foremost accomplishment.

Brenda and Danny were the 2002 Harvest Days Parade Marshalls. Brenda was the Chamber Citizen of the year in 1997.

Survivors include husband, Danny Burton of Dimmitt; one son, Kevin Bruton and wife Krisse of Dimmitt; two grandchildren, Klancy and Kreed (Rocket) Bruton of Dimmitt; one sister, Zana Denny of Lovington, N.M.; and two brothers, Jerry Cryer and wife Doris of Clovis, N.M. and Bill Cryer and wife Brenda of Wofforth.

Brenda was preceded in death by parents, Estil and Elizabeth Cryer, and one brother, Leon Cryer.
