Greenlawn Funeral Home in Bakersfield, CA.Margaret Ellen Liebel Brassfield was born May 7th, 1926, in Isabella, California, and died after a short illness on June 3rd, 2016. She was the twelfth and the last surviving child of Michael Otto and Emma Rice Liebel. Her nickname was "The Spirit of '76" growing up, as she was born to a father who was 76 years old.

Maggie attended school in Isabella until high school, then she lived in a dormitory and attended Bakersfield High School until she graduated with the Class of 1944. Every Friday afternoon they would go home, only to return back to school on Sunday night, driven in a school bus by one of her classmates who had a driver's license and who could reach the pedals.

She met her future husband Jack Brassfield at a dance here in Bakersfield. They became pretty smitten with each other and they were married on May 1st, 1946. She and Jack enjoyed many years together living here in Bakersfield. They loved to travel, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends, until Jack passed away unexpectedly in February 1994. He was the love of her life, and she missed him on a daily basis. Together they had two sons, David and Kurt, who between the two of them gave her four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She also had an honorary daughter, her niece Maureen Abonnel, plus many other nieces and nephews.

Maggie just celebrated her 90th birthday amidst a lot of laughter and telling of stories, requesting the requisite black coffee, a steak and German chocolate cake. She had a long and interesting life, that would take up many pages to write.

Mom/grandma, you were a tough old bird, and will be sorely missed.

Love, David and Gail, Matt, Kurt and Vonn, Karmen, Ashley and Connor
