From an autobiography found on familysearch.org on Parley's memory page:
I was born in a three room log farmhouse. We lived there until I was six years old. Then we moved to Raymond, Idaho. I went to school there in a log cabin for a few years. Then we moved to Layton, Utah where I went to school again some. I did not get to school too much in the spring and fall. I had to help my father so I only got to go to school four or five months in a year. I didn't finish eighth grade. My father only had one hand. He had the other one taken off in the thrasher machine.

I had some very good times. I did not like to play football or basketball but I did enjoy roller skating very much. I had a team of horses and a little black buggy and I liked to go riding. I lacked the money most of the time.

We moved to the Teton Basin of Idaho. There I met Charlet Prudence Rawlings. We were married October 10, 1917 in the Salt Lake City Temple after two years of courtship. We had a wonderful life, moved all over the country, always looking for something better than we had.

We had a wonderful family. Our first son, Amos Parley, was born in 1918 in Tetonia, Idaho. Then our daughter, Thelma Prudence, was born. Our second son, Cecil R, was born in 1924 in Tetonia. Our third son, Myron John, was born in 1926 in Tetonia. Two years later, we had twin sons, Don and Dean, in Deweysville, Utah. Five years later our last son, Walter Jr., was born in Hagerman, Idaho. I am very proud of them all.

I blacksmithed to earn a living. I really was a jack-of-all trades. I was a carpenter and a farmer. When we moved to Hagerman, we bought a home and lived there many years. Our family grew up, got married, and left home. Charlet and I took a job in Nevada one summer. Then we moved back and worked on the boys' farm tending chickens in Buhl. We finally retired in town.
