Conrad was fifth oldest of nine children born to Joseph and Mary Anne (German) Fehringer. He was born in Humphrey, Nebraska, in 1903. Later that same year his family moved to Okarche, Oklahoma, where they lived for the next five years. They returned to Humphrey in 1908, but only for a few months and then moved to Oakes, North Dakota. He grew up here and received his education in the local schools, completing the sixth grade.
Conrad and Mildred were married by a Justice of the Peace in Milbank, South Dakota in 1936.
The family lived in the Minneapolis suburbs of Spring Lake Park and Columbia Heights before settling in North Minneapolis in the summer of 1957.
Conrad worked for Truss-Bilt Company in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as a foreman, until his retirement. He died of a heart attack at their home on Aldrich Avenue North. He is buried in Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis in Section 22, Lot 246, Space 9.
