Archer Adolphus "Doppie" Byrne was born on December 18, 1873 in Putnam County, Tennessee, the son of Reverend George Dallas "G D" Byrne (1844–1931) and his 1st wife Mary Malinda "Mollie" (Nichols) Byrne (1845–1921).

He was married about 1907 as the 1st husband of Susan Irvine (1883–1951), the daughter of Gabriel Caldwell Irvine and Lydia Wichliff (Hughes) Irvine. Susan was married in 1940 to W Sherman Capshaw (ca 1895–ca 1959). At the time Susan married Sherman, she was the owner of Byrne & Company jewelers, while Sherman was the owner of W Sherman Capshaw Jewelers.

A watch maker living at 424 Broad Street, Nashville, Doppie was 64 years old, married and diabetic [having had a gangrenous leg amputated about mid-June 1938], when he died at home of chronic myocarditis on September 20, 1938. Burial was the next day in Woodlawn Cemetery.
