MR FIELDS ROCK MARKER WAS FOUND BY ROBERT MITCHELL. HE IS WORKING TO RESTORE THE CEMETERY.
MESSAGE FROM SHIRLEY.
Thank you for the website. I don't know why it didn't come up on my search of the Bell County Cemeteries. Odd, I knew I had seen it previously. My ancestor, James William Fields is not listed in the cemetery roster but I have a letter stating his "rock" was found and the family stated he was buried there. When they buried his 3rd wife, the family looked for his burial location to bury her next to him but didn't find it so she is buried in Pendleton Cemetery and I've visited and photographed her grave. My great grandmother (I knew her well) was there at both events. James William Fields (May 25, 1815 – May 26, 1884) was father to 11 children by the 1st wife (who died in Mississippi); father to 2 children by his 3rd wife, Cynthia Elizabeth Smith (Nov. 7, 1838 – Oct 2, 1889). Many of the children lived, married and died in and around Bell County.

Obviously, I would love to locate the rock. I would be happy to transcribe the 1963 letter that states a Bell County resident went to the cemetery and located the stone. I've been to the cemetery on two occasions looking for the stone but came home empty handed. This cemetery is certainly a challenge to get into.
Many regards to all of you who work so hard for those of us who don't live in the area.
