Mr. Presley Thompson "Pop" Boteler, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2016, from 4:00pm - 5:30pm with service at 5:30pm, Chancellor Funeral Home of Florence.
Mr. Boteler, a lifelong resident of Florence, graduated from Florence High School in 1955 and was a member of Briarhill Baptist Church in Florence. He was a simple man whose passion in life was his family. His family will always remember his determination to see to it that breakfast was prepared every day.
Mr. Boteler was an avid gardener and provided tomatoes and fresh vegetables to local restaurants and stores and took care of others selflessly. He loved to fish and hunt especially at Lake Albermarle. He began working as a fireman for the Jackson Fire Department in Jackson, MS, when he was 23 years old and retired after 26 years of stellar service as a Captain.
Mr. Boteler was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Thompson Boteler; mother, Irma Jones Boteler; and two brothers, Herman and Kenneth Boteler.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Sandy) Boteler of Florence; one daughter, Brenda (Billy) Bryant of Florence; three brothers, Harold (Linda) Boteler, Ray Boteler, and Paul (Lisa) Boteler all of Florence; three sisters, Virginia Johnson of Vicksburg, MS, Carolyn Brown of Tallahassee, FL, and Linda (Jerry) Foreman of Florence. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Ashleigh (Brian) Grimes, Richard (Ashley) Bullock, Austin (Haley) Bullock and Terri (Chad) Knight; nine great grandchildren, Kaleb, Brayden, Cayde, Dillon, Presley, Jace, Parker Kate, Trent, Savana; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
