He was born in the town of Florence, June 1, 1857 a son of the late George F. and Ursula Mix Balcom.
He was twice married, his first wife the former Miss Alice Loomis passing away in 1892. In Utica on January 1. 1893 he was married to Miss Esther Duggleby. His entire life was spent in the towns of Redfield and Florence. He was a member of the M.E. Church.
Surviving besides his widow are three sons, Wilbur J., John J., and Leslie D. Balcom, all of Redfield; eight grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Almira E. Wight, and Mrs. Betsy Woodhouse of Camden, and Mrs. Ada Griffith of Los Angeles, Calif.; three brothers, Samuel Balcom of Whitesboro, Henry K. Balcom of Rome, and Chester W. Balcom of St. Charles, III.
