Thayle was patriarch of five generations of the Byington family. Born January 29, 1924 in Burley, Idaho, Thayle spent his life in southern Idaho and northern Utah with a close connection to the land.
Thayle married Dauna LaRea Prescott in 1943 in Pocatello, Idaho prior to joining the Army Air Corps.
During WWII he served as a mechanic for a bomber squadron. After WWII he returned home to Idaho be a welder and mechanic.
Thayle moved to Utah in 1954 and raised his family there. After his children had gown, Thayle moved to Park Valley to homstead where he helped neighbors with dowsing for wells. He returned to Layton in 1998.
Family remembers his patience, love of helping people, and deep faith. Any time, day or night, friends and family knew they could turn to him for help. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and opened his home to both family and chosen family raising four generations of Byingtons in his home.
Thayle is survived by brother, Gerald Byington; son, Thayle A. Byington (Cheryl); daughters: Nona Dowdle and Wanda Nistler (Kent); 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by wife, Dauna (Prescott) Byington; father, Roy Byington; mother, Florence (Housley) Byington; brothers: Wendell Byington (Erma) and Gerald Byington (Beverly); sister, Alice Jewks (Bill); daughter, Rebecca Byington; and son, Danny Byington.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerfield Ward LDS Church, 60 West Gordon Avenue, Layton. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Lava, Idaho Cemetery.
