In 1860, Andrew moved west becoming a stock raiser in Sonoma, Mendocino, California. Soon after, he moved to Pioche, Lincoln, Nevada, where he married Miss Celestia "Lettie" J. Geer on 22 Apr 1875. They had two children, Sarah Pauline and George Bidwell Fife.
In June of 1882, Andrew took his family to the Las Vegas Ranch owned by the Stewarts. Mrs. Fife was not in good health and it was thought she would fare better there.
A Republican in politics, he was elected sheriff in Pioche on 18 Sep 1884. Some years later he served as coroner.
Lettie died in Oct. of 1884, while visiting in San Francisco. She was 33 years of age. Andrew was married for a second time(spouse unknown at this time).
The following years, Andrew engaged in various mining partnerships including: Duluth, Silver Peak and Nevada Mining. In 1900, he was in a partner with Thomas Clark in Esmeralda County, Nevada. A recent probate dated 1910, in Lassen County, Admn. by his son George B. Fife indicates he died in Monterry Calif.
