Mrs. Clara Sell 90, life-long resident of Bremer County, died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Sept. 29, at Sumner Community Memorial Hospital. She was hospitalized two days prior to her death, which was attrbuted to complications incident to advanced age.
Funeral servicies were held Saturday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. John American Lutheran Church with the pastors. Rev. Kenneth P. Alpers and Rev. John H. Sorenson, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery north of Sumner.
Clara Sell was born on Nov. 13, 1885, in Dayton Township, Bremer County, the daughter of Henry and Sophia Schaefer Weihe. She was baptized Dec. 6, 1885, at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek. by Rev. W. Adix and was confirmed in the same church on Mar. 31, 1899, by Rev. Fred Sched(n)er.
She attened parochial school at Buck Creek and later a public rural school in Dayton Township.
On April 24, 1905, she was united in marriage with Carl K. Sell at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek, Rev. Schedtler preformed the marriage ceremony.
The couple farmed in Dayton Township for over 30 years until retiring and moving into Sumner in 1938. Mr. Sell preceded her in death in 1949.
Survivors include one son Leslie of rural Sumner, two grandsons. Virgil of Denver and Veryl of Chicago Heights, Ill. two granddaughters. Lodyce, Mrs. Marvin Buhr of Humboldt, and Ruby, Mrs. Marvin Craun of Denver; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brother and nine sisters.
Emerson-Milnes Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
