PVT US Marine Corps - World War I

Cecil A. Stewart, 66-year-old World War I veteran and Crawfordsville district employee of the State Highway Department, died of a heart attack at 9:10 a.m. Thursday at his home here.

He was born Feb. 6, 1899 at New Maysville, Ind, a son of George and Nellie McCloud Stewart. He was married June 16,1923 at Bainbridge to Ida Hood, who proceeded him in death.

Mr. Stewart was a member of Raymond Todd Post 233 of the American Legion and the VFW and Fraternal Order of Eagles of Crawfordsville.

Surviving include two sons, Charles and Cecil Thomas, of Waveland; five daughters, Mrs. Gordon Day of Darlington, Mrs. Ray Billingsley of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Russell Payne of Linden and Mrs. Raymond Hannah and Mrs. Vorris Hubble of Waveland; 28 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William Hood of New Market and Mrs. James Walters of Coatsville, and two brothers, Claude of Greencastle and Carl of Brownsburg.

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Machledt and Servies Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. Lester Niles will be the minister and burial will be in the Bruin Cemetery.
