Marianito García y Del Rosario era mi tío abuelo, el hermanito mayor de mi abuela Cándita. Su padre Nicandro le puso el nombre de su hermano mayor, Mariano García y Morales, y de su padre Mariano García y Perdomo, para honrar a sus dos seres queridos. Compartió 5 años de su vida con su tío Mariano.
De sus hermanos, sólo Nicandro Julián, 3 años menor que él, y mi abuelita Candita compartieron con él. El resto de sus hermanitos no llegaron a conocerlo, pues ya había fallecido cuando nacieron. Sin embargo, tanto sus padres como sus tíos y abuelos mantuvieron su memoria viva en sus corazones.
Vivió en una época totalmente diferente al Puerto Rico del 2016. Nació, vivió y murió cuando nuestra islita era posesión de España. Creo que mi generación y la de mis hijos jamás podrá ni siquiera imaginar cuán diferente fue la vida en esa época.

El libro, dictado en el 1889, se titula La lucha de un espíritu y fue publicado poco después por el Centro Fraternidad de Isabela, Puerto Rico. Es un libro muy bonito con un mensaje consolador y muy necesario para los que habitamos nuestro planeta. No ha vuelto a ser publicado desde principios del siglo 20.

Nos contaba mi titi Pilar que era un niñito muy, muy bueno, de un gran corazón. Todo lo que le regalaban lo compartía con los niños pobres de su pueblo, ya fuese dinero, dulces o ropa. It is a very beautiful and comforting book that offers a very much need message to all of us, the inhabitants of our planet Earth. It has not been published again since then.
